Pro Bono

FPA of Georgia has provided several pro bono speakers for Town Hall meetings in Albany and LaGrange.  These meetings are part of the Own Your Future campaign to publicize the importance of planning for your own long term care. Jim Nelson spoke at the first meeting in Albany and then in LaGrange as a substitute speaker for our chapter.  The LaGrange meeting had 300 attendees and people lined the walls to hear representatives from planning related fields including elder law, geriatric care and a reverse mortgages as well as our FPA of Georgia representative speak about the importance of planning and various planning alternatives.  The Lifelong Planning specialist for Lagrange has planned several more events for later in the year. If you would like to volunteer to represent FPA at one of these events, please let me know.

Earlier this month, the Lifelong Planning group led a session to highlight their “Collaborative Partnerships with FPA of Georgia” in Chicago at the joint annual conference of the American Society of Aging and National Council on Aging.    This conference brought together over 4000 of our nation’s top aging experts.  Abby Griffis, the Lifelong Planning coordinator, Tom Hebrank from FPA of Georgia and Tina Strassenberg, a Lifelong Planning specialist presented this session.  Nick Nicolette, the president of FPA, attended and met afterwards to further discuss the details of this program.

We want to continue to build our list of volunteers for our Pro Bono efforts.  People have stepped forward to help with our Pro Bono efforts for our military and for Habitat for Humanity. Though these have been relatively small efforts, we want to be prepared to help out in a larger capacity when the need arises.  Pro Bono efforts are not likely to take a large amount of your time, but can make a great difference in the lives of those we touch.   Email Tom Hebrank, CFP® to express interest in future Pro Bono opportunities.

Thank you.
